Through Cita’s Eyes Part 2

My practice follows various mediums in music, digital art, painting, drawing, and photography. Borinquen Through Cita’s Eyes explores the story of my family’s journey to the United States from Puerto Rico and the questions of identity that comes with it. The piece is about being a part of the Puerto Rican diaspora and trying to find pathways to reconnect with my ancestry. In the video, I raises questions to my parents about economic status, The American dream and touches on colorism in the Latino community. The artist displays images taken in Puerto Rico and in Humboldt Park, Chicago, showing herself in between both places. I present my visual symbols of culture, Taina makeup, murals, landmarks, and her grandmother. The entire piece is in black and white to bridge past and present representations of culture.
